Language week in Dublin

Sunday 23rd April 2023

Our journey to Dublin started at 8:45 at the train station in Amstetten. Most of us students were very nervous because we hadn’t been on a plane for such a long time. After a three-hour flight and a short drive we got to meet our host families for the first time.

On our first school day in Dublin we were introduced to our teacher David, whose sense of humour made us all instantly like him. After school we did a walking tour with our guide Pia, who showed us some famous places of the city and gave us an insight into Dublin’s history.

In the afternoon we did a cliff walk in the beautiful port city Howth and afterwards we looked for seals in the sea but unfortunately we weren’t able to see any. That was pretty frustrating for all of us since we had been really excited to see them.

 Wednesday 26th April 2023

After our third day of school we visited the Jeanie Johnston Museum. The ship was known as the “miracle ship” of all the famine ships of the 19th century because no one died on this ship. Additionally, we were able to get an interesting insight into how life must have been for the people who were on these kinds of ships to flee from Ireland to America. In the late afternoon some students took the chance to go to Ireland’s oldest university, Trinity College, with the teachers to visit the impressive library, the “Long Room”, and to see the Book of Kells.

 Thursday 27th April 2023

On our fifth day in Dublin we visited a photo museum which contained multiple impressive photographs. In the evening we all had a lot of fun at the bowling alleys and some of us even got a strike.

 Friday 28th April 2023

On our last day in Dublin we were free to decide for ourselves how we wanted to spend this afternoon. Some of us enjoyed this day at the beach in Malahide.

 Saturday 29th April 2023

At 6:30 our host families dropped us off at a meeting point where our bus was already waiting for us to take us to the airport. Back home in Austria we all were pretty exhausted from this exciting week.

All in all, it has to be said that none of us will ever forget this fantastic experience. We met a lot of new people and were able to have fun while improving our English skills. A huge thanks to our English teacher who made this week possible!
